Ice hockey

is a sport played in an ice rink, where two teams of skaters use their sticks to shoot a puck into their opponent's net to score points. Ice hockey teams usually consist of six players each: one goalkeeper, and five players who skate across the rink trying to take the puck and score a goal against the opposing team.

Ice hockey is a good physical exercise. I myself have tried it and after a bit of skating my legs were very tired. It also brings family and friends together. And like every sport, everyone goes crazy during the match when a team scores a goal.

On the other hand, hockey can be very dangerous:

The stick can knock someone in the face.

Sometimes you’re going so fast that at the end you can’t control yourself.

If you fall and your fingers are just before a player’s skates your fingers can get injured very badly.

People can also start arguing and get into big fights.

As a conclusion, ice hockey is a very fun game that uses a lot of energy. Of course you have to take care and once you’re used to it you’ll fall way less.

gymnastics

I am now going to talk about gymnastics. Gymnastic is a sport that requires strength, flexibility, balance, agility, endurance and control. There are four principal stands: floor (matts, air tracks…) in the floor routine you tumble and do artistic moves, balance beam: there are high beams (around 1.25m) and there are low beams (35 cm) you do different moves while balancing on the beam. Vault: a run-up, springboard, vaulting table, there are handstands flat-back, front handsprings…and finally uneven bars: two parallel bars (one higher than the other) casts, front-hip circle, back hip circle…

Here are the positive points: in this sport you jump, run and move a lot so you stay really fit. It requires a lot of strength work like push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and plank. You have to have good tommy muscles, especially in uneven bars because you have to circle-up (get on the bar). The other positive point is that they all help each other. If one gymnast doesn’t understand or can’t do a move another gymnast comes and helps her out. In my gymnastic club we always help each other out because we really believe in team work.

One of the negative points is that this sport could be a little bit dangerous. How? While tumbling you could make a wrong step and get really injured. Or when you are on the balance beam you could fall off and hurt yourself (that’s what happened when my ankle was hurting me).The other negative point is that you need to train a lot (like I’ve told you in the second paragraph) and after all of this training you get very tired!

In my opinion I find this sport great because it is for girls and boys, plus I think it’s really fun! You have to concentrate and never abandon like some people I know from the gymfinity club. They were very good and could do practically everything, but they stopped practicing only because they didn’t win any medals in competitions. It’s really sad! I hope you agree with me.

Skateboarding

Actually based on keeping balance on a board on wheels while doing tricks. But it is not easy at all and requires protectives gear. Skateboarding is a fun and affordable sport. It helps you stay fit such as all sports. Skateboarding also helps you keep balance. You can skate mostly everywhere because you can take it everywhere you go. However skateboarding is a dangerous sport. It requires protective gear like a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads… You could get injured badly while skating that’s why you have to be careful. Not many people can skate because they don’t have balance and skills. In conclusion, skateboarding is a very fun and interesting sport but also a dangerous one. I really like this sport because it interests me, it is a work out, it is fun and a cool outdoor activity. What’s your opinion about skateboarding? Kickboxing

is a group of stand-up combat sports based on kicking and punching, Kickboxing is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a contact sport.This sport is practiced worldwide and many models practice this sport to build a strong,healthy and good body.My model idol Gigi Hadid,practices kickboxing and this is one of the reasons I decided to talk about this amazing sport. Eventually professional kick boxers earn a lot of money.

In my point of view, this sport’s main advantage is the self-defense point which is important to every human. Stressful persons should totally give kickboxing a shot because it could be very helpful to release stress level. If we focus on the MAIN body advantage, kickboxing is one of the best sports to burn fat and build a strong,good and healthy body. And this will encourage you to stop worrying about any body problems unless you suffer from back or joint problems. Personally if I get the chance to practice kickboxing I would recommend all the people who feel that they are not confident enough to try kickboxing.

Moreover,there is a negative side to kickboxing.Using professional techniques and moves can be very brutal !People suffering from arthritis, back or joint problems are discouraged from doing this activity. It can actually cause more harm than good in people suffering from these types of ailments. Another negative effect of kickboxing is in beginners who engage in this activity too fast. Kickboxing should be a gradual activity, allowing time for the body to become comfortable with it. Kick boxers should also be careful not to extend joints too far when exercising in this way. Joint injuries are common in kickboxing, especially in beginners.

To conclude, although injuries could have really bad effects on some bodies, I think that kickboxing is a really good sport because of all its positive points and general fitness benefits, If a beginner is looking for stress release or trying to build a better body, a good kickboxing instructor can help this person.

Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a sport involving the performance of exercises requiring strength, flexibility, balance, endurance and control. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, chest and abdominal muscle groups. In gymnastics both genders can compete. For women there are 4 events: beam, bars, floor and vault and for men there are 6 events: Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar

Gymnastics is a good sport because, first of all, it makes you fit and healthy. And I think that the sport is fair because women don’t have the same physical strength as men. The hardest event is bars, it requires a lot of arm and abdominal muscles strength .Men have that strength. But for women, it’s harder to have that strength. So in gymnastics women have only 1 bar event but men have 3, which are Still Rings, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar. Gymnastics is a sport which requires self confidence, by doing it you become more and more confident because you compete by yourself, it isn’t like football or basketball where in you compete in teams, it’s an individual sport.

There is a negative side to gymnastics. It is very risky. You can get hurt so bad, for example, you can twist your ankle, fracture your knee and many more injuries. In bars the worst thing is a rip. A rip is when a gymnast works so hard on bars or rings that they tear of a flap skin from their hand ,its also called de-gloving injury. And it’s a very hard sport; it requires a lot of concentration, confidence and strength.

In my opinion, it’s a good sport because the positive points of this sport are more than the negative points and it’s a fair sport. It’s not aggressive like boxing or football because the gymnast competes by their selves. In contrary to football. In football players can tackle you or push you but in gymnastics no one can do that because you’re competing individually. Another example is boxing, in boxing you compete by yourself but you compete against someone and your opponent can beat you and that is very painful. So I think that gymnastics is a good and a fair sport to practice it also suites the physics of woman

Football

Football is a very intresting sport which is mostly played all around the world . I love football honestly it is one of the only sports I play everyday. It is loved by so many people especially kids these days .

Football is a passionate game . Some kids already desire to become a football player for me this is good because kids have an intrest. When its an international game more people would be interested because players are playing for there country. Which is also a good sign for the player because they can be proud that there country have chosen them to play for them. Now lets talk about the money! Football players earn millions everyday to buy an average player you would need atleast 45 million. G

There is a negative side to Football . Players can sometimes get seriously get injured . They can sometimes be out of action from 3 to 6 months . And if you are out of action for that long you wont be able to train which means that when you comeback from you’re injury you wont be the same you will have to train even more. Sometimes football can get too serious for people so they will start fighting verbaly and physically .

To conclude I think that football is a good game but it can get out of hand just like I said earlier

What I think of gymnastics as a sport

Gymnastics is a popular sport that is generally watched on TV. It is a competition sport that has 4 different events that are floor, beam, bars and vault. It isn’t specially a women sport, men also do gymnastics and shouldn’t be underestimated. However, they do not compete together. The persons that give the notes are called juje s.

Many people say that gymnastics is a very artistic sport. Gymnasts have to memorise routines for all the topics except vault. This sport helps to keep fit because gymnasts have to train a lot to become better. Some of the greatest gymnasts became famous. It isn’t only a competition sport , some people just do gymnastics for fun.

There are also some negative points. One of them is that it’s a really dangerous sport. Injuries are easy to get in gymnastics especially on the beam which you can easily fall of. Another negative point is that you have to train a lot or else you won’t succeed as a gymnast. This non – stop training could prevent some of the gymnasts doing other things in their private life.

To conclude, I think that gymnastics is a great sport but it could sometimes be boring to watch for some people. I find that gymnasts put a lot of effort while doing gymnastics. I really like to watch competitions on TV and I think that gymnastics should be more famous and more watched on TV.

BASKETBALL Tamara Demachkieh 5ème B The sport of basketball is known as a fun past time for any person young or old. Basketball is my favorite sport but there are some positive and negative points. The positive points: Basketball is a great way of exercise and a great way to have fun with friends and possibly make some new ones. It's a very easy game and you can have fun while burning a few calories. You build a strength and become more confident and stronger. Basketball is a great way to get your mind off things and is also a great way to express yourself. It is a sport that can work your whole body. It's a very addicting game and makes you want to play more of it . But there are negative points: you can have fun while playing but sometimes you can get injuries and won't be able to play for at least a month.The stress is real: if you don't score a goal ,the fans will get very aggressive and then start shouting and there is no way you will be able to concentrate . In my opinion, Basketball is a very fun game and I love playing or watching the game on TV . It's a great way to exercise even though there is a big chance you will get hurt . Basketball is known as a good pastime in many people's eyes but can also be seen as a passion for many others.

The sport that I chose to present is gymnastics. Gymnastics is a sport that requires a lot of strength, training, and patience. Even though it is a very demanding sport, it is very fun.

Like every sport, gymnastics has positive points and negative points. Let’s start with the positive points. Gymnastics is a sport that keep you fit. It is a sport that builds strength, flexibility, bone density and body coordination. It can also help reduce stress. It is a fun sport to do, if you always try your best because if you do not, you might not be able to achieve much.

As much as gymnastics has positive points, it also has negative points. A major negative point is that there is a high risk of injuries. It is a sport that makes people furious if they cannot execute a flip that they want to do. Another major negative point is that elite gymnasts train very hard and are always on a strict diet. Elite gymnasts are usually shorter and skinnier than any average person because they have to keep their body small and have to stay thin in order to be able to train better. Sadly, many gymnasts may take the diet a bit too far and that could result in an eating disorder.

Even though gymnastics is a very demanding sport, once you get the hang of it, it is very fun and it is a sport that you wouldn’t want to quit. The key to gymnastics is to be careful, try your best, and have fun.

GYMNASTICS

Gymnastics is a very popular sport for girls (and not so popular for boys). A lot of the girl’s idols are gymnasts and many magazines covers that talks about athletic sports or Olympics are usually pictures of gymnasts.

The positive points/benefits in gymnastics are that it builds up your flexibility. That means that flexibility prevents you mostly from everyday day aches and pains. At all ages, gymnastics provides an opportunity to develop social skills. Gymnasts learn how to stand in line, listen, be quiet when others are talking...etc. And lastly, there are skills in gymnastics that are scary. A lot of this has to do with being scared to do something intimidating that you have never done before and scared to injure yourself. Coaches always push the students to overcome their fears and that develops self confidence.

In gymnastics, there are also negative points. If you didn’t know, gymnastics is a very dangerous sport. There is always a high chance of getting injuries. Also, because gymnasts a lot of the times over train, it can lead to very serious conditions as eating disorders. They can cause a strict diet that sometimes leads to death. Because these athletes stunt and put a lot of pressure on their body such as their shoulders, it can lead to late maturation which is sometimes not healthy at all. And lastly, trainers are asked very often to require concentration and excellence. That leads the gymnasts to high expectations in themselves which sometimes make them over frustrated in not being able to do a trick.

To conclude, I think personally that gymnastics is very stressful. And being a gymnast myself, I can say that the stress sometimes bothers me in a class which is not good at all. Of course, a lot of people like putting themselves in that kind of situation and making the sport their full time job. I agree with that but I think that it should be just a little bit less dangerous.

Kart Racing:

Today I chose to talk about kart racing,it is one of the most popular sports that is generaly around the world.For me, it is more than just a simple sport I have participated in.It has way more excitement and it is a facinating because not everyone has the courage or the capacity to drive a kart on a really high speed for several laps.That’s why professional drivers earn a lot of money and are usually famous.Karting is a collective sport there are teams of at least two driver often men competing for the three first places.It is a really entertaining sport which has a lot of suspense.People support drivers from their country or drivers who compete for their favorite car brand ( Ferrari,Mercedes…)

But like every other sport kart racing has its negative side.It can be one of the most dangerous sports.Although drivers wear a helmet a fire-retardant suit and underwear and fire retardant shoes and gloves.It can coast you your life.Even a professional driver can have really bad accidents with really bad injuries and terrible consequences in some cases in can also affect (damage) your brain.

To conclude,I really like kart racing and enjoy watching it but I can never imagine myself taking the risk of competing in this sport

SKI

Skiing is the most popular winter sport in the world. Not only professionals can practice this sport, but anyone can start at the age of three years. Ski is a sport where you need a lot of gear. You need boots, skis, gloves, helmet, mask and extra warm clothes. The best places to practice this sport is in Europe or America, or Canada…

Some positive points are; we do this in the nature, it is a sport that is really fun. You can sometimes spot squirrels, small rabbits and also fox. In some areas there are also frozen lakes that are beautifully surrounded by trees. The best part is to pick pinecones from the pine trees in the white forests. It is also exciting to play snowball fights while skiing down a slope. I also enjoy the stops we make to have a hot chocolate.

Some negative points are; you can feel really cold, when it is snowing the snow can get in your face, there are storms, and also, the worst part is waiting on the ski lift to arrive on top of the mountain.

In conclusion ski is a great way to stay fit and have fun. It is advisable to learn this sport at a very early age.

Tennis

Tennis is a popular sport that many people seem to enjoy watching and playing. Some professionals are extremely wealthy and many fans look up to them.

Tennis is a sport that is enjoyed by everybody: men, women and even children and it can bring many people together. A lot of media and TV channels cover tennis matches. It is very interesting and can really entertain us. Playing tennis is good for our health: it develops strength, coordination, aerobic fitness and at the same time it’s fun!

However, there is a negative side to tennis. It can sometimes cause injuries in the knees, arms or shoulders for example, and these injuries can sometimes have a long lasting effect. Another negative point is that some players sometimes have public outrages on the court. Some smash their racket on the ground, rip their shirts and even use foul language on the court.

Personally I am a big fan of tennis and I enjoy playing it myself. Even though, as with every sport, there are always some negative aspects, I think that positives of tennis outweigh the negatives.

WRESTLING

Introduction:

Wrestling is a really big sport in the U.S.A and is watched by many people; wether it is on tv or in the arena ITSELF!! It is one of the best MMA sports ever as it has all the fighting techniques that any sport can have.You will now why in the next paragraphs.

Positive points:

Hyped wrestlers are a great thing in wrestling, how to know when wrestlers are hyped? Well, it is obvious in their behavior. When wrestlers are hyped, they wrestle in huge excitement and can sometimes pull off a normal TAUNT or a dance taunt. The majority of wrestlers that taunt are usually preferred by the fans. Taunting wrestlers really excite the crowd as they get more action to see.

Negative points:

When injuries occur to the most preferred wrestlers by the fans, nobody is joking. These injuries are dangerous and some of them can paralyse you for life. These injuries could be: broken bones ore necks, dislocations or even separations. What is worse than that is the cocky wrestlers that add insult to injurie, also who insult the fans by saying they are worthless. Those are the most hated by the fans, as the fans usually boo them.

My conclusion:

In my opinion, wrestling is a great sport to watch as it is entertaining, and you never get bored when you watch a wrestling match. Even the wrestlers themselves try to give you great action so that you can have fun and enjoy the show.

TAUNT: A taunt is a battle cry, sarcastic remark, gesture, or insult intended to demoralize the recipient, or to anger them and encourage reactionary behaviors without thinking.
